Dinner time is the perfect time to have meaningful conversations with your kids. These moments are ones we can use to discuss their lives and important things you want to teach them. One topic of conversation that many parents will have with their kids at some point is about drinking and drug use, and explaining  family values surrounding alcohol and drugs.

Did you know 28% of Indiana teens were offered or sold illegal drugs at school within the past 30 days and 33% of Indiana teens have had an alcoholic drink within the past 30 days?  NAND, No Alcohol No Drugs, is a local organization that works to reduce drug and alcohol abuse in our community. Studies show that teens who eat at least three family meals a week with their parents are less likely to use alcohol or drugs.

Having trouble starting the conversation about alcohol and drugs? On April 18th the McMillen Center will be hosting the McMillen Center Health Lecture Series where a representative from NAND will be teaching a break-out session. They will be available to ask questions or talk about any concerns you might have regarding teen drug and alcohol use. The lecture series will also cover another important teen topic: Distracted Driving.
