Time to Get Out and About!

This Week’s Recipe

The weather is slowly but surely warming up and as the gray clouds move out, there are so many things to enjoy outside and around town. Find our Out and About Guide online for tips to get your family out and active! The guide will provide your family with information on where to find activities, paths, parks and splash pads in the city along with nutrition tips and so much more. Bring the guide to your family table and have some fun planning your warm weather activities!

Another great way to use the guide is to plan your training route for this year’s Fort 4 Fitness. Did you know the McMillen Center is a charity partner? We have formed TEAM TAM to gather racers and pledges to support the McMillen Center. Follow this link, to sign up for Fort 4 Fitness and Team TAM today!

Happy spring!

Tip of the Week – Family, Fall, Fun!

Recipe of the Week

It seems hard to believe that the end of October is already here. Between school assignments, sports practices, and the other zillion things our family seems to keep busy doing, we have barely settled into a school routine. Yet grade cards seemed to find their way home last week!

The past two weekends, our family has been out of town and this weekend we are looking forward to remaining in the area! Investigating family activities that require neither an expensive outlying of cash, or even a significant amount of time, led to a short list of local family-oriented activities. Grab your family and a group of friends and head out for some valuable together-time!

Orchards, Patches & Mazes
Each fall for the past five years, my friend Kathryn and her family have made an annual trek to a local apple farm to pick apples. “We had never gone before and it sounded fun,” Kathryn said. They have found new types of apples that their family prefers. “The kids like to eat their apples while we are picking.” This year, they even picked apples while it was raining! Some farms allow u-pick, while others are doing pumpkin mazes and hay rides. For our friends and their kids, the fun is the novelty of going out and picking apples for themselves.

Dia de los Muertos – Through Saturday, November 2nd
The Day of the Dead, a Meso-American and Christian culture celebration originally honoring children and ancestors features memorials created by artists, families, and community groups from throughout the region. Admission. Fort Wayne Museum of Art, 311 East Main Street

“Larry Cat in Space” and “Aurora”. The 90-minute planetarium experience will include information about the moon and a staff-guided live tour of the Fort Wayne night sky. Admission. Achatz Hall, University of Saint Francis, 2701 Spring Street

The Punkin’ Path – Through October 31st
The path is decorated with pumpkins, gourds, bales of straw – and gnomes! Fall exhibit is included admission and open during public hours. Admission. Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun.

Wild Zoo Halloween – Thursday, October 31st
